چکیده
The generation of high-current multi-MeV protons by irradiating thin foils with short-pulse, ultrahigh intensity lasers (τ < ps, Iλ >10 8 W/cm μm) has gained great attention in the field of laser-ion acceleration due to remarkable properties of the accelerated beam and its suitability for a new type of ion source. The acceleration process takes place on the nonirradiated rear side of the foil. This mechanism is described by the TNSA-model [1, 2] (Target Normal Sheath Acceleration, fig.1). 3D-flow modeling of laser-accelerated protons and electric field reconstruction
The irradiation of foil targets with ultra-intense short laser pulses leads to the generation of MeV ion beams from the non-irradiated target rear side [1]. The ions, mostly protons originating from contaminants, form a collimated beam with an exponential energy spectrum falling to high energies and a sharp cut-off at up to 60 MeV, depending on the laser parameters. With special target cleaning...
متن کاملLaser-driven proton acceleration enhancement by structured foils (simulations and experiments)
The interaction of ultrashort intense laser pulses with thin foils is accompanied by the acceleration of ions from the target surface. In order to increase the efficiency of ion acceleration, microscopic structures on the target surface have been employed. In particular, the presence of a monolayer of polystyrene nanospheres on the target front-side has drastically enhanced the absorption of th...
متن کاملInfluence of micromachined targets on laser accelerated proton beam profiles
High intensity laser-driven proton acceleration from micromachined targets is studied experimentally in the target-normal-sheath-acceleration regime. Conical pits are created on the front surface of flat aluminium foils of initial thickness 12.5 and 3 μm using series of low energy pulses (0.5–2.5 μJ). Proton acceleration from such micromachined targets is compared with flat foils of equivalent ...
متن کاملInstrumentation for diagnostics and control of laser-accelerated proton (ion) beams.
Suitable instrumentation for laser-accelerated proton (ion) beams is critical for development of integrated, laser-driven ion accelerator systems. Instrumentation aimed at beam diagnostics and control must be applied to the driving laser pulse, the laser-plasma that forms at the target and the emergent proton (ion) bunch in a correlated way to develop these novel accelerators. This report is a ...
متن کاملLaser-accelerated protons with energy-dependent beam direction.
The spatial distribution of protons, accelerated by intense femtosecond laser pulses interacting with thin target foils under oblique irradiation are investigated. Under certain conditions, the proton beams are directed away from the target normal. This deviation is towards the laser forward direction, with an angle that increases with the level and duration of the amplified spontaneous emissio...
